Project Description
RH2 evaluated two 2.8-million-gallon welded steel reservoirs at Oak Lodge Water District’s View Acres site to assess structural condition and seismic vulnerability. The reservoirs, constructed in 1966 and 1989, are located on the same property and had limited original construction records available.
RH2 performed detailed visual inspections and nondestructive testing to assess welds, foundations, coatings, steel thicknesses, and reinforcing conditions. For the older reservoir, steel coupons were removed and laboratory tested to determine accurate material properties, allowing for a more refined structural analysis. This approach reduced uncertainty and saved the District approximately $200,000 by avoiding unnecessary weld repairs.
Structural evaluations were completed in accordance with current ASCE 7 and AWWA D100 standards, resulting in targeted retrofit recommendations, including foundation and anchorage improvements. RH2 also evaluated mechanical and non-structural elements and recommended system upgrades to improve safety, resilience, and long-term performance.
