Pinnacle Ridge Reservoir and Booster Pump Station, Tacoma Water
Before this project, a rapidly growing part of Tacoma Water's service area in Pierce County relied heavily on a single booster pump station. The new 5 MG reservoir, packaged booster pump station, and upgraded transmission main add redundancy and capacity for future growth. During design, the team saw an opportunity to increase the reservoir from 4 MG to 5 MG at relatively little added cost. They also upsized the transmission main from 16 to 24 inches to reduce headloss. Design began just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and supply-chain and electrical equipment delays posed real risk. RH2 and Tacoma Water pre-purchased the booster pump station and much of the electrical package ahead of the main construction contract to keep the project moving. Detailed 3D modeling helped fit the reservoir, pump station, stormwater facilities, and utilities onto a constrained site. Tacoma Water kept neighbors informed throughout construction, and community input even shaped the reservoir's color so it blends with the surrounding tree line.
