Transportation

Designing Safe, Connected & Environmentally Responsible Roads & Pathways That Move Communities Forward

Transportation systems shape how people experience their communities. Whether making a neighborhood street safer and more enjoyable for walking and biking, improving a key freight route, or rehabilitating aging pavement, RH2’s transportation team delivers projects that have a direct, visible impact on daily life.

We take on the full spectrum of planning and design challenges, and our integrated team of roadway, traffic, electrical, geotechnical, and environmental professionals work together to deliver practical, buildable, and sustainable solutions that balance mobility, safety, cost, and community context. Whether designing a new intersection, improving pavement conditions, or developing long-term corridor plans, we focus on creating systems that serve today’s needs and adapt for the future.

Our Approach to Sustainable Mobility

RH2 incorporates multimodal design, low-impact development principles, and green infrastructure where appropriate to enhance safety, reduce environmental impacts, and improve stormwater outcomes. Our teams help clients meet regulatory requirements while advancing projects that reflect community priorities for walkability, access, and long-term environmental performance.

Our project work offers staff exposure to a wide variety of transportation engineering experiences, including:

Planning & Mobility

  • Traffic studies, modeling, and corridor planning.

  • Freight, multimodal, and safety evaluations.

  • Transportation Improvement Programs and funding support.

  • Integration of climate resilience, emission-reducing strategies, and green infrastructure considerations during early planning.

Design & Engineering

  • Roadway and intersection design, including roundabouts and signalized intersections.

  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and pedestrian safety improvements, including rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs), high-intensity activated crosswalk (HAWK) crossings, and accessible pedestrian signal (APS) upgrades.

  • Pavement analysis, preservation, and rehabilitation.

  • Illumination, channelization, and complex urban reconstruction.

  • Evaluation of low-impact design alternatives, stormwater enhancements, and opportunities to incorporate green infrastructure within the transportation right-of-way.

Construction Support

  • Utility coordination.

  • Environmental permitting.

  • Construction contract administration and field observation.

  • Support for best management practices that protect the environment throughout construction.

Across all project types, we collaborate closely with clients, agencies, and community members to deliver transportation improvements that make everyday travel safer and more efficient. Our transportation professionals enjoy the opportunity to shape infrastructure that keeps communities connected for decades to come.

Thinking about Joining Our Team?

If you’re excited about shaping the way people move through their communities, RH2 offers the chance to make a visible difference. Our transportation group brings together planners, designers, and field staff who enjoy solving real-world challenges, improving safety, expanding mobility options for all travelers, and incorporating sustainable practices. New team members work alongside experienced mentors, contribute to projects of all sizes, and build a career improving roads, crossings, corridors, and connections that matter.
