The City of East Wenatchee received funding from the Washington State TIB to improve the intersection at Highline Drive and 3rd Street SE. The improvements included roadway, pedestrian, stormwater, and illumination to convert the current stop-controlled intersection to a modern roundabout. The intersection is heavily used by all modes of traffic from pedestrians to freight. Our team provided surveying, environmental permitting, utility coordination, roundabout intersection design, traffic modeling, public involvement, plans and specifications preparation, estimating, construction support, and project management. RH2 worked with the City to complete design alternatives to determine what type of intersection would work best to meet the project goals. Aesthetic elements were incorporated to compliment East Wenatchee’s historic Miss Veedol transpacific flight. This effort was highly praised by the City and public for its quick construction time and overall functionality.
