George Landon Pump Station, Highline Water District

The George Landon Pump Station gives Highline Water District full redundancy for its largest pressure zone, the 560 Zone. Before, the District couldn't meet maximum day demands without its aging Pump Station No. 6, which left it vulnerable if that station went offline for maintenance or was damaged in a natural disaster. The new 5,000 gpm station now serves as the zone's primary supply from Crestview Reservoir. The site sits in a Tukwila residential neighborhood next to a community park, so RH2 teamed with Page & Beard Architects to design a facility that looks like a single-story home. Three horizontal split case pumps in the basement were chosen for ease of maintenance, and a crane lets crews lift them directly into a service truck. A critically silenced generator exhaust and acoustic louvers and insulation keep noise to a minimum. Landscaping and fencing help the site blend in with neighboring homes. Construction began during the COVID-19 lockdown, and McClure and Sons, the District, and RH2 worked closely to keep the project moving through substantial completion in December 2021.
