Project Description

To support long-term growth and improve water supply reliability in the West Hill Operating Area, the City of Kent evaluated new reservoir and booster pump station facilities. RH2 supported the effort by analyzing alternatives for a 5.0-million-gallon reservoir and associated booster pump station connected by a 16-inch transmission main, improving system pressure and firefighting capacity where existing infrastructure no longer met safety standards.

Hydraulic analyses were performed to confirm storage needs and evaluate multiple reservoir types, including standpipe, composite, elevated, and spheroid options. RH2 prepared planning-level cost estimates, conducted site evaluations, and supported public outreach. 3D modeling and shadow analyses helped illustrate visual impacts and inform discussions with stakeholders and City Council.
Based on technical and community considerations, the preferred alternative included a steel reservoir on a subsurface concrete foundation, approximately 165 feet tall and 79 feet in diameter. RH2 prepared the Department of Health Project Report, supported permitting, and assisted with construction observation to advance the project toward implementation.
