Steve Nelson, LG, LHG, LEG
Principal Hydrogeologist / Engineering Geologist
Every successful infrastructure project starts with a solid understanding of the ground it’s built on. As a licensed hydrogeologist and engineering geologist with nearly four decades of experience, Steve brings that critical perspective to RH2’s design teams. He applies scientific methods and analysis to local and regional geologic conditions to optimize design while minimizing risks of geologic hazards and construction challenges to deliver reliable water and sewer systems.
Steve has developed expertise in groundwater supply development and well design, wellhead protection, watershed planning, stormwater and infiltration systems, groundwater control, and site remediation. He advises on facility siting, operation and design, geohazard mitigation, and construction recommendations to promote cost-effective and resilient projects that integrate with the surrounding environment. With his broad insight into soil, rock, groundwater, and surface water conditions and interactions, Steve plays a critical role in shaping projects that serve communities for the long term.
Steve's favorite work is participating in the recognition of a problem or opportunity, conceptualizing the solution, investigating the conditions and challenges, and supporting the design team to develop the best outcome for the client, community, and environment. In his spare time, he is out walking, hiking, biking, skiing, or kayaking as he learns more about the same environment.
