Project Description
The City of Bellevue partnered with RH2 to rehabilitate the Horizon View No. 3 Booster Pump Station (BPS) to stabilize water pressures and improve service reliability for the Summit neighborhood. Residents had been experiencing pressure fluctuations of up to 20 psi, prompting RH2 to complete a detailed hydraulic analysis, evaluate more than a dozen pumping alternatives, and design a temporary pumping system to maintain service during construction.
RH2’s final design replaced outdated pumping equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, and the hydropneumatic tank with a modern, energy-efficient layout. Improvements included a new standby generator with building addition and HVAC upgrades, electrical service separation from Eastside Public Safety Communications Agency equipment, new electric motor-driven fire pumps, and upgraded telemetry and controls. These upgrades simplified operations, reduced maintenance, and ensured reliable drinking water and fire flow for the community.
During construction, RH2 also completed a short circuit study, protective device coordination study, and arc flash analysis to meet electrical permitting requirements. This work provided the City with recommended breaker settings, updated hazard labeling, and a comprehensive safety report, supporting both regulatory compliance and operator safety.
Key Highlights:
- Stabilized water pressure for Summit neighborhood residents.
- Designed and implemented energy-efficient pumping alternatives.
- Installed new standby generator and separated electrical service.
- Replaced outdated fire pump, mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Completed arc flash analysis and provided safety labels.
